Where Should Your Visitors Sleep?
When you live close to the coast and near mountains, forests and rivers, you know one thing is going to happen. You are going to get more visitors during the year. And it is nice to have guests. Of course, the question comes up: Where will my visitors – family & friends – sleep?
We have a guest room with a queen sized bed. We have also taken a portion of the porch and enclosed it, making a small room that includes a futon couch that opens up into a queen sized bed, so guests can sleep there. But I have to admit that since the “porch room” is not as well insulated, it sometimes gets both colder and hotter than the rest of the house. These extremes can be combated with space heaters or fans, but since we want our guests to be comfortable, sleeping in the regular part of our home is more desirable. Besides, if you have five or six visitors at one time, you are going to need, at least, three sleeping areas.
So, we have adopted the solution that most everyone does – we got a temporary bed that goes into the living room. Over three years ago, we purchased an Insta-Bed Raised Air Mattress with Never Flat Pump, which has been used many times.
This inflatable bed is the main reason I decided to write this post. Our visitors keep asking us, through an e-mail or phone call after their visit, where they can get this raised air mattress they slept on. And since I am tired of looking up the link particular link to Amazon and getting back to them, here is this post. Now all I have to do is send them to my blog and my friends can take it from there.
As most of my readers have not had a chance to sleep on the bed in my home, I thought I would also give a review of the Insta-bed for your edification. So here goes….
This is a queen sized raised bed, which is inflated with an attached pump. It takes about 5 minutes to inflate fully. To make sure the bed stays at the desired firmness, a secondary pump also turns to quietly add more air, if needed. This way the bed stays the same firmness through out the night. My guests really enjoy sleeping on it.
The other nice feature is how tall this inflated mattress gets. When inflated air bed has an 18 inches raised height. This height makes it so easy to get in and out of the bed.
Once your guests have left, you switch the pump to deflate and 4-5 minutes later, the bed is ready to be folded up, stuffed back into its carry bag and put back into storage. We use a large plastic bin with a lid to hold the bed when it is not in use.

Please inflate your mattress according to the included instructions. Note that the material may stretch during the first several uses. It is recommended to inflate your bed at least 1 hour prior to using or measuring it. Extra air may be required after this period to achieve full firmness. For items featuring the NeverFLAT pump system, this extra air is added automatically.
All mattress measurements should be taken from the center of the bed surface. For width and length, measure across the bed from the center of each side from widest point to widest point. For the height, measure at the center of the longest side from the ground to the highest point of the bed surface.
