No Costumes Worn at Standing Rock
Influenced by Halloween and the wearing of costumes, I wrote this poem in honor of the courageous Native Americans who are fighting for the water and life in North Dakota…
No Costumes Worn at Standing Rock
WE all stem
From the Gorge of Origin,
Moving in all directions
Then taking the paths found in between.
WE are changed by our experiences
And time,
To become The People
Of the Places.
The first dwellers
of these dots of land.
Our voices are still strong
As death did not disappear us.
We speak of life
And the protection of life,
For all dwellers
Both the First and the New.
Choose, Join, Become.
– Scott Harker
As I hope you get from this poem, I am standing with those who know the land of North Dakota best, I respect their voices and opionions and agree that the oil pipeline should not go on the path that the First Dwellers have declared out of bounds.
