The Star Trek Reality
By Scott Harker
Occasionally our human culture creates iconic literature that transcends its time of origin. Hercules, Sherlock Holmes, Tarzan, Batman and Superman are such examples. I think that Star Trek and its various characters also have a chance to reverberate in our collective consciousness for many years to come. Particularly, Captain Kirk (courage), Mr. Spock (intellect) and Dr. McCoy (emotions) are recognized around the planet.
Because the Star Trek characters are so well-known, it is a fertile field for humorists, including this Star Trek fan work.
Here we have a cartoon from the Star Trek Series Deep Space 9 featuring the shapeshifter Odo. Another cartoon below features the Vulcan culture as reflected in Star Trek: The Original Series. Enjoy.
Star Trek Limerick
Cartoonist Note: The original version of the cartoon used the words “F*ck Off” instead of “Kiss Off”, which is probably better, but that art version has been misplaced. |
That Remarkable Vulcan Spock
That remarkable character Spock
Well renowned for his logical talk,
His blood, it is green,
And he never gets mean,
Is most known for his long, pointed “ears”.
(Yes, I know that the last line of this limerick does not rhyme – it is, thus, illogical to call this a limerick, ha ha!)
A SPACE LIMERICK
I. Obtaining Warp Drive
Black holes maybe huge warps in space
Through we’ll travel, time to time, place to place,
But it won’t become real,
If we happen to kill,
The Earth’s only sentient race.
